Concept of disease
When they are in proper proportion in the body, Mal (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) performs constructive functions like Dhatu. But when they are abnormal in proportion, they are called metal defects or spoilers.
Vata–
Vata ensures that the movement of your body is smooth. Its Includes absorption, nervous system conduction, excretion, breathing, and musculoskeletal function. Vata dosha comprises two elements, “air” and “sky.” Vata or Vayu dosha is considered the most important of the three doshas. Any process related to movement in our body is possible only because of Vata. In the Charaka Samhita, Vayu is considered to increase the digestive fire, the motivator of all the senses. And Vata has a unique linking quality. It means that it and other doshas also imbibes their qualities.
Pitta-
Pitta is equally important in holding together the opposite qualities of fire and water. As an acid, Pitta dosha is made up of the elements ‘fire’ and ‘water.’ It controls the hormones and enzymes produced in our bodies. The heat of the body, such as body temperature, and digestive fire, are controlled by pitta. Therefore, being in a balanced state of pitta is very important for good health. Pitta is found prominently in the body in the stomach and small intestine. When the pitta dosha is imbalanced, the digestive fire starts to weaken, and the food eaten is not digested properly.
Kapha-
Kapha is an adhesive and lubricating force that burns the opposing elements and holds the earth together. Imagine mixing stone and water. Kapha force stabilizes the body with well-structured muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fat. Kapha Dosha comprises two elements, ‘Earth’ and ‘Water.’ Kapha dosha, due to ‘Prithvi’ has stability and heaviness, and ‘Jal’ has oily and lubricating properties. This dosha helps increase the strength and immunity of the body. Apart from nourishing the body, Kapha controls the other two doshas (Vata and Pitta). In its deficiency, both these defects automatically increase. Therefore, it is essential to keep Kapha in the body balanced.
Tridosha Sites In Your Body
Kapha in the chest, Pitta around the navel, and Vata under the navel predominate. The chest, heart, thymus (lymph), and stomach are prominent in Kapha dosha. In pitta dosha, all the digestive glands of the small intestine, pancreas, liver, and intestines are major.
In addition, the bladder, uterus, testicles, rectum, and the downward opening of the physical sphincter are all governed by the Vata dosha.
The concept of the three doshas is similar to the three miasmas – psora, sycosis, and syphilis. Everyone is born with all three miasmas. But it is their abnormal activity that leads to diseases. In a healthy state, there is balance. There is peace inside and out, and Harmony is maintained in an integrated manner.
Miasmatic activity remains secret. Stimulation of miasmatic activity, by both endogenous and exogenous causes, distorts the vital economy, resulting in abnormal sensations, feelings, and distortion – the clear presentation of the disease.
